Patricia R. King, born in Pontiac, Michigan on July 31, 1963, to Hollie and Minnie King, is the third to the youngest child of eleven. She graduated from Pontiac Northern

Senior High School 1981, where she excelled in basketball and softball. Pat played on the fi rst ever girls basketball team to win the district title with a victory over Waterford Township, coached by Joe Carr.

The late Coach John Dickensheets recruited Pat to play basketball at “State”, but upon her arrival Head Coach Edgar Randall, Asst. Coach Glover Smiley and Asst. Debra Anderson-Conliff e were her appointed basketball coaches. Pat was an excellent defender, great rebounder for her height of 5’6”, and did not hesitate to score when the opportunity presented itself. In her freshman and sophomore seasons she

was selected by the coaches and players to receive the “Heart and Hustle” award for her hard work and dedication. In her junior and senior seasons, Pat received WVIAC Honorable Mention Recognition for basketball in 1984, 1985. In track and fi eld, she was the Women’s Track Team Captain in 1984; WVSU Outstanding Middle Distance Runner 1984; WVIAC All Conference Women Track 1982, 1983, 1985; and participated in the NAIA Nationals Track Competition in Charleston, West Virginia.

Pat graduated from “State” earning a Bachelor of Science in Therapeutic Recreation and continued her studies at the University of Central Oklahoma, earning her Master’s Degree. She later returned to “State” and earned her second degree, a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education. Pat is currently in her 19th year of teaching as an Assistant Professor at West Virginia State University in the Health and Human Performance Department. Pat is a certifi ed volleyball and basketball offi cial.

While attending WV State, Pat became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Currently, she is a member of Grace Bible Church where she works with the children in Children’s Church. Pat has one daughter, Dakota, and two sons Dominic “Bo” and Dallas, two grandchildren KaLeah and Antoine, and lives in Charleston, West Virginia. She enjoys spending time with family and friends. She especially loves giving back and mentoring to the children of Charleston and the surrounding communities.
