Joining a Team: Freshmen, Transfers and Walk-Ons

FRESHMEN
1.Complete: WVSU Insurance Protocol Form
2.Amateurism Certified by the NCAA Eligibility Center after 12 days
  • Official Transcripts must be sent from Hight School to NCAA Eligibility Center in Indianapolis, Indiana
3.Admitted in Good Standing
4.Have a physical, proof of sickle cell tes and insurance on file
5.Have proof of Sickle Cell Test on file with Athletic Training Staff 
 
TRANSFERS - 1st term or 2nd term on campus
1.Complete: WVSU Insurance Protocol Form
2. Have a Physical, Proof of Sickle Cell and Insurance on file
2.Amateurism Certified by the NCAA Eligibility Center
3.Admitted in Good Standing
4.Must have passed 9 hours their last full time traditional Fall or Winter or Spring term to be immediately eligible.
5.Satisfy the appropriate transfer regulation - email ncaacompliance@wvstateu.edu if you have questions
6. Have Proof of Sickle Cell Test on file with Athletic Training Staff
 
WALK ONS WITH 2 or MORE SEMESTERS AT WVSU
1.Complete: WVSU Insurance Protocol Form
2.Have Proof of Sickle Cell Test on file with Athletic Training Staff 
3.Have a Physical and Insurance on file
4.Amateurism Certified by the NCAA Eligibility Center
5.Be in Good Standing Must have passed 9 hours their last full time traditional term
6. Must 24 hours passed during an Academic Year in Residence at WVSU during the last two terms with maximum of 6 hours being earned in the summer
7.You must have a 2.00 GPA or greater
 
NCAA RULES TO KNOW
  • You have 10 semesters to participate in four seasons of out season competition. You count all semesters full-time at a Junior College, Trade School, or Four Year degree Granting Institution as of the 1st day of class.
  • 1 play is a season of competition during the championship segment
  • NCAA Drug Tests year round.
  • You must be enrolled in at least 12 hours every term unless graduating in that term.
  • Starting the students 5th semester, every course taken must get you closer to graduating the student must be 24 hours closer to graduating every academic year.
  • Outside competition during the school year can cause you to be ineligible.
