MEDIA CREDENTIAL POLICY

  • All requests for media credentials must be emailed to the Sports Information office at least four days prior to the game. Credentials are required for in-person coverage of Football, Volleyball, Women’s and Men’s Basketball.
    • Media credentials are not required for other WVSU sports. However, if table space or press box space is needed, requests should be made to the sports information office at least four days prior to the event
    • Photography requests should include whether or not you will need courtside/press box table work space or not
    • Having been credentialed at other related events does not guarantee acceptance at WVSU athletic events. In addition, receiving an approved credential for one WVSU sporting event does not guarantee a credential for another WVSU sporting event.
    • Credential requests made after the deadline are subject to denial, regardless of whether the requestor meets other criteria.
  • West Virginia State University reserves the right to approve or deny any and all credential requests on a case by case basis. Below are general guidelines to use when applying for credential access
    • Working members of the media representing a recognized media outlet (newspapers, television or radio stations, online outlets) that either cover the sport or a participating school on a regular basis.
    • School-verified student media, including campus newspaper, television, and radio from either participating school
    • Individuals representing media outlets that represent a student-athlete’s home area will be granted credentials upon requests. However, press box space is not guaranteed, and will be approved as space allows.
    • Independent/freelance content creators will be granted credentials on a case-by-case basis, as space allows
  • Credentials will not be issued to the below individuals
    • Family members or friends of athletes who are not actively covering the game for a verified media outlet
    • Individuals who are affiliated with an outlet, whether an online outlet or not, that primarily covers either gambling OR recruiting services
      • This includes prediction markets such as Kalshi and Polymarket.
  • All media members issued credentials shall follow at all times the NCAA media credentials criteria and guidelines.
  • All media members issued credentials shall dress and act appropriately. This includes
    • No cheering while in media access areas (press box, sideline, scorer’s table and other restricted areas)
    • No asking for autographs from WVSU coaches and student athletes
    • Photographs and videos may not be sold without written approval from the West Virginia State University Sports Information department.
    • Credentialed media are not allowed to transfer or otherwise allow anyone else to use your credential. Violation will result in immediate credential revocation
  • West Virginia State University reserves the right to revoke media credentials for anyone who isn’t in compliance with the above rules.Â
