James (Hen) Henry, son of the late H. Reed and Vernell Reed, is the oldest of 6 children. He entered WVSC (University) in the fall of 1977 after graduating from Stranahan High School in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. While in high school, Hen was outstanding in football and track. He achieved honors as All-Conference and All-State for his talent as a football player.
Hen was team captain for the 1980 “State” football team. In 1977, he was named most valuable defensive lineman and then again in 1979 and 1980. Continuing to excel in football, Hen was also player of the week in October of 1979 and 1980 as well as, “State’s” Homecoming most valuable player. He was a member of the 1979 Southern Conference Championship team. As a senior, Hen averaged 10 tackles a game making him a valuable member of the team.
In 1982 Hen was a member of the West Virginia Rockets football team as starting nose guard. After graduating from “State” with a B. S. Degree in Social Work, Hen enlisted in the U. S. Army and after 21 years, Hen retired. He received numerous awards for his dedication to serving his country.
As a disabled veteran, Hen’s passion is weight lifting. He has 2 children, Shawn and Jamie. He currently resides in Clayton, North Carolina.
