The WVSU women's tennis team advanced to the round of 32 in the NCAA national tournament for a fifth straight year with a 5-2 win Monday over Edinboro.
The Yellow Jackets took a 2-1 lead after doubles with
Kierstin Hensley and
Laura Isbey teaming to won 8-2 at first doubles and the duo of
Nina Dillwald and
Lindsay Goff taking a hard fought 8-6 victory at third doubles.
Hensley and Isbey rolled to wins at the top two singles positions and sophomore
Kayla McKnight clinched the win for WVSU with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at six singles.
The Jackets did not fare as well Tuesday in a match moved inside and delayed until 8:30 p.m. due to high winds.
Top-seeded host Indiana University - Pa. jumped ahead 3-0 after doubles play winning by identical 8-2 scores at first and second doubles and taking third by a count of 8-3.
The Hawks then grabbed wins at fourth and fifth singles to take the regional crown.
The Yellow Jackets were making their 10th consecutive appearance in the NCAA tournament and finish the year with a 13-8 record.
