The petition drive to ask the United States Postal Service to issue an Earl Lloyd stamp has more than 60 percent of the signatures needed for the request to be considered by the USPS.

The former West Virginia State great led the Yellow Jackets to their lone undefeated season and an HBCU national title in the late 1940's and then went on to play professionally. Lloyd capped off a brilliant career by becoming the first African-American to play in an National Basketball Association game, win an NBA championship, and become an NBA head coach.
He is a member of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Hall of Fame, the West Virginia State University Hall of Fame, the state of Virginia Sports Hall of Fame, and the was inducted into the National Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003.
