5/13/2026 3:15:00 PM

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State men's basketball alum Robert Fomby will be playing in Tracy McGrady's One's Basketball League (OBL) for Team Baltimore. Fomby will be competing at the OBL's first event of the year Friday in Orlando.

"Being invited to participate in a 1 v 1 league start by such a great NBA player such as Tracy McGrady is a huge honor!!" Fomby said. "I am extremely excited to play in the league and continue to grow my brand!!  I have to also thank Coach Poore for giving me an opportunity to be a part of his program at WVSU and giving me the direction and discipline to make this happen!!"

First launched in 2022, Each city-based team will have a three man roster, comprised of players who best reflect the tradition, values and basketball culture of the city the 1 v 1 team represents, hand selected by the Owners/GMs. "OBL: Battle of the Cities" will take place over multiple weeks in Orlando, Florida, where McGrady was raised playing 1 v 1 himself, from May 15 to June 30, with teams competing for the swagger, pride, and identity of every city represented.

"I am super proud of the man Robert has become as we have stayed in touch since his time here at WVSU!!" Yellow Jackets head coach Bryan Poore said. "This league fits him perfect!!  When he was playing at State, there were very few defenders that could keep him from getting to the rim one on one!!"

Fomby, who spent two seasons with WVSU, appeared in 36 career games, averaging 13.9 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. He was named Mountain East Conference men's basketball Player of the Week on Jan. 21, 2018.
