INSTITUTE, W.Va. — Charleston knocked down 14 three-pointers and pulled away after halftime Saturday afternoon, topping West Virginia State 84–64 in Mountain East Conference play inside the Walker Convocation Center.
Charleston built a 36–25 halftime edge behind eight first-half threes, then outscored the Yellow Jackets 48–39 over the final 20 minutes to close the regular-season home slate. The Golden Eagles also won the glass on the offensive end (15–7 in offensive rebounds) and finished with just five turnovers.
Trey Harris led WVSU with 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting, adding three steals and three assists.
Blake Goodman chipped in 13 points (3-of-4 from three) with four assists, while
Hassan Belkhaddar and
Bryson Smith finished with 10 points apiece. Belkhaddar added nine rebounds.
Charleston was paced by Braden Chapman's 22 points, while Matthew Shelton scored 18 and Ben Nicol added 17, including five threes. Thomas Hailey posted 11 points and 10 rebounds.
West Virginia State (8–21, 4–17 MEC) will turn its attention to the Mountain East Conference Tournament. The Yellow Jackets are the No. 10 seed and will face No. 7 Frostburg State on Wednesday, March 4 at 6:00 p.m.
