The West Virginia State University women's tennis team achieved its highest regional ranking ever when the first NCAA Atlantic Region poll was released this week.
The Yellow Jackets are ranked second behind Indiana University-Pa.
There will not be much time to celebrate though as the Jackets (16-1)Â host the Crimson Hawks (15-2) Sunday at 11 a.m.
"There are only three weeks left before the regionals so this match will have a huge effect on the final rankings," WVSU coach
John Simms said. "Those will determine who gets to host the regional matches."
The Yellow Jackets have advanced to the regional final each of the last three seasons only to fall in the round of 32. They were eliminated by IUP in 2013 and 2014. The Crimson Hawks have advanced to the final 16 each of the last five years.
