The WVSU women's tennis team fell 5-4 to Charleston in the championship match of the Mountain East Conference tournament Sunday in Huntington.
The regular season champion Yellow Jackets trailed 2-1 after doubles play but managed to fight back to a 4-4 tie before losing a thrilling three-set match to decide the title.
That ended the Jackets' conference match winning streak at 51. The last time WVSU lost to a conference rival was a 5-3 decision to West Liberty on October 21, 2011, in the semifinals of the now-defunct WVIAC tournament. It was also the first lost the program has suffered against an MEC opponent ever.
