Baseball Sweeps Three Games Series at Kentucky State

The Yellow Jacket baseball team rolled to a three game series sweep onthe road at Kentucky State this weekend.

WVSU opened the series with a 7-6 win as Jacob Frantz delivered the big blow with a two-run double in a five-run fourth inning that gave the Jackets a 7-3 lead.

The Thorobreds rallied for three runs in the bottm of the seventh before Tyrel Panter came on to record the last two outs and pick up the save in relief of starter Tyler Hall.

That would prove to be Kentucky State's best shot at a win as the WVSU bats took over from there.

The second game of the doubleheader went to the Yellow Jackets by a final of 15-2.

Trayvis Patterson drove in five runs with a single and two doubles while senior Phil Mandt knocked in four with a pair of singles and a two-run home run.

Brandon Wright doubled and drove in three runs on four hits while feshman Chris Ruppenthal had one RBI on a single and double and drew two walks.

Colby Gainer did not allow an earned run and struck out five in six innings of work.

WVSU completed the sweep with a 12-5 single game, nine-inning, victory with Mandt knocking in five runs with a sacrifice fly and a grand slam. Ruppenthal picked up a single and double and Matt Washington hit a solo shot out of the park.

The Yellow Jackest head south this coming weekend with four games set for Saturday and Sunday in Wilson, North Carolina.
