INSTITUTE – West Virginia State University head baseball coach Sean Loyd '95 has hired Mason Bell as an Assistant Coach. Bell comes to West Virginia State after playing for two years at the University of Southern Indiana. 

"I could not be more excited to become a part of this historic program!" Bell said. "WVSU has a great tradition of high-level winning teams, and I look to continue and enhance those such standards of this program. Coach Loyd is one of the most respected and accomplished coaches in this region. Together, we are going to elevate the performance, character, and standards of not only each player individually, but the program, school, and community as a whole. Go State!"

While at Southern Indiana, Bell was named to the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioners Honor Roll, and played summer baseball in the Appalachian League, spending time with the Bristol State Liners and the Tri-State Coal Cats. Bell also played one season for the Asheboro Zookeepers of the Coastal Plains League. 

"We are thrilled to have Mason join our staff," Loyd said. "After a lengthy search, I was certain Mason was exactly the pitching coach we were looking for. He is a high energy, knowledgeable coach. He brings new age technology with a common sense approach. I am excited to see the impact he has on all of our student athletes, not just the pitching staff. He is a true professional".

Prior to the 2026 season, Bell joined the Zookeepers coaching staff as Pitching Coach, helping the team to their first playoff appearance in 13 seasons, along with a 28-20 record. 

Bell graduated from the University of Southern Indiana in 2026 with a degree in Professional Studies.
