Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The WVSU baseball team dropped an 11-5 decision to Shepherd in Saturday's first game but rebounded to take the late game 5-3 over West Liberty.

The win earned the Yellow Jackets a spot in the Mountain East Conference championship game for the third straight year.

WVSU will face the Rams at 1 p.m. at Linda K. Epling Field in Beckley needing to win twice to capture a third straight title.

Colby Gainer went seven strong innings allowing just one earned run to get the win against the Hilltoppers. Curtis Johnson came on to finish out the game for the third straight day and picked up his second save in two days.

In 2014 the Yellow Jackets came into the final day undefeated but Notre Dame took game one 7-3 before WVSU came back to win 4-1 in the first MEC championship game.

Last year WVSU faced the same scenario as this season. needing to beat Shepherd twice on the final day. The Yellow Jackets came from behind in both games to win each in extra innings.
