Hitting (and Pitching and Fielding) on all Cylinders Jackets Roll Over Bobcats

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Everything was clicking Sunday for the WVSU baseball team as the Yellow Jackets rolled to a doubleheader sweep of visiting West Virginia Wesleyan.

"I loved our energy and purpose this weekend," WVSU baseball coach Sean Loyd said.

Senior Josh Falbo allowed just three hits, walked none, and struck out six while throwing a seven inning complete game in the opener as WVSU rolled to a 6-0 win over the Bobcats (19-19 overall, 11-13 in MEC).
Falbo faced only two batters above the minimum because the Jacket defense erased one baserunner with a double play and played errorless ball.

The Jackets banged out 13 hits with Phillip Mandt accounting for four of those while Trent Porter and Justin Graham each had three.

Game two saw more of the same as WVSU cruised to an 11-0 victory.

Tyler Hall went all nine innings allowing just four hits, walking none and striking out six. Just like Falbo in the opener Hall did not allow more than one hit in any single frame.

Also just like game one the Yellow Jackets (23-11, 18-6) knocked out 13 hits. Dylan Grimm, Jamison Jones, and Brandon Wright each finished with three.

"We got excellent pitching the entire weekend and our hitters did a great job of making adjustments against pitchers that were all different," Loyd said. "Defensively we played about as well this weekend as we have all year."

Sunday the Jackets allowed two baserunners in an inning only once as the Bobcats never seriously threatened to score.

Meanwhile Yellow Jacket batters were teeing off.

A total of seven different Jackets had multiple hits on the day. Mandt doubled twice in game one, Jones had a double and a triple in game two along with a single as he came a home run short of hitting for the cycle. Jones ended up driving in five runs on the day.

By taking three of four from Wesleyan the Yellow Jackets take a three game lead in the Southern Division standings into next weekend.

"We have a tough series next weekend at Glenville," Loyd pointed out.

The Pioneers are in second place in the division after splitting four games this weekend on the road at third place Concord.

The Yellow Jackets wrap up the regular season at home the weekend after that with a four game set against the University of Charleston.
