Box Score 2 The defending Mountain East Conference champion WVSU baseball team continued its recent roll by sweeping a four game series at the University of Virginia at Wise over the weekend.
The Yellow Jackets won Saturday's games by scores of 6-4 and 15-7 and Sunday's by similar tallies of 6-5 and 16-7.
The Jackets have now won 12 of their last 14 contests to improve to 20-10 overall.
Freshman
Justin Graham had a big series at the plate pounding out 11 hits in 16 at bats, a .688 batting average, while
Trenton Porter hit .563,
Dylan Grimm .538, and
Brandon Wright .500 over the weekend.
"It was a good weekend for us," WVSU baseball coach
Sean Loyd said. "We swung the bats well and made pitches when we had to."
The Jackets not only hit for average but for power, especially Sunday when they belted seven round trippers. Graham hit a pair out of the park while
Trayvis Patterson, Porter,
Jacob Frantz, Josh Kiser,and
Phillip Mandt each accounted for one.
The Yellow Jackets have moved into first place in the South Division with a 15-5 conference mark.
"We want to have a great week of practice this week and prepare for West Virginia Wesleyan," Loyd said.
The Bobcats visit Institute Saturday and Sunday for a three game set beginning with a doubleheader Saturday with the first pitch set for 1 p.m.
