Box Score 2 The WVSU baseball squad fell behind in both games of a doubleheader Saturday at Fairmont State.
And both times the Yellow Jackets came back winning the opener 6-4 and taking the nightcap 7-6 in dramatic fashion.
"It was a total team effort and we were up for the challenge," WVSU baseball coach
Sean Loyd said.
The Falcons took a 3-0 lead with three runs in the bottom of the third in game one.
It did not hold up though as
Dylan Grimm drove in one and
Trayvis Patterson two runs in the fifth to tie the score at 3-3.
The Yellow Jackets broke the tie scoring three times in the seventh with
Phillip Mandt delivering the big blow in the form of a two-run double to left-center.
Josh Falbo went the distance on the mound fanning eight while scattering seven hits.
The Jackets were forced to rally in even more dramatic fashion in game two as they found themselves trailing 6-4 going into ninth inning.
Grimm drew a leadoff walk and
Jamison Jones worked his way to a free pass to get things rolling.
Trenton Porter came up next and drove them both in with a double to tie things up.
Mandt then drove Porter home with a doube to gap of his own to give WVSU a 7-6 lead.
Curtis Johnson set Fairmont State down in order in the bottom of the frame to seal the win and pick up the victory.
"It was two excellent come from behind wins for us," Loyd said. "It was a good effortto bounce back."
