Box Score The Yellow Jackets scored twice in the top of the first inning to take an early lead
in baseball action at Davis & Elkins Wednesday on the way to a 4-2 win.
Dylan Grimm got the ball rolling by drawing a leadoff walk. Grimm then advanced to third on a hard hit groundball single by
Jamison Jones and ended up coming around to score on a sacrifice fly off of the bat of Josh Kiser. Jones was driven in two batters later when
Phillip Mandt singled.
The Senators fought back with single runs in the bottom of the first and in the third.
WVSU picked up the winning runs in the bottom the seventh.
Jonathan Cline was hit by a pitch to start the frame and and Ace Estep followed with a sacrifice bunt to move him into scoring position. Sophomore
Brandon Wright then drilled a 1-2 pitch into centerfield to drive in Cline and make the score 3-2.
Grimm followed with a single and the speedy Wright advanced to third. Jones came up next and lifted the first pitch to deep center allowing Wright to scurry home and make the score 4-2.
Colby Gainer went 5 2/3 allowing two runs.
Ryan Baldwin retired both batters he faced to earn the victory with
Trey Salisbury,
Will Ore, and
Curtis Johnson holding Davis & Elkins in check the rest of the way.
Wright finished the day 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.
