After watching his young Yellow Jacket squad lose on a last second shot late Friday evening WVSU Head Men's Basketball Coach
Bryan Poore had some concerns about how his players would rebound when they took the court again less than 24 hours later.
Saturday the Yellow Jackets showed their coach and everyone else just how resilient and determined they could be in rolling to a 77-68 win over Elizabeth City State in a contest that was not really as close as the final score indicates as WVSU led by as many as 24 in the second half.
For the second straight day the Jackets shot at least 50 percent from the floor, 52.9 percent Saturday, and led 38-23 at halftime.
Sophomore
Brent Bauer turned in another standout performance hitting all five of his field goal attempts and his lone free throw to finish with 14 points while also handing out six assists.
Jayson Hankins also finished with 14 points and
Mohammed Camara added 12 for WVSU.
In the day's opening game Virginia Union overcame a three point halftime deficit and pulled away down the stretch to defeat the University of Virginia at Wise 88-77.
Wingate by Wyndham Concference Challenge women's tournament
The Yellow Jacket women's basketball team had a rough opening night challenging and then falling to Chowan 103-75 in Saturday's nightcap.
WVSU pulled to with four points in the third quarter before the Hawks went on to finish out the period on a 17-6 run.
Shae Hines paced the Yellow Jackets with 18 points with freshman
Sydney Bates adding 10.
In the first game of the event Kutztown held off a late University of Charleston rally for a 75-63 win.
