Box Score A furious Yellow Jacket rally came up short as Concord held on for a 13-8 win over WVSU Thursday afternoon in a first round Mountain State Athletic Conference opening round game in Beckley.
Thanks mainly to a seven-run fifth inning the Mountain Lions held a 13-3 advantage going into the bottom of the ninth.
But the Jackets refused to quit and pushed across five runs before finally hitting into a game ending double-play.
Brandon Wright,
Cody Smith, and
Tyler Payne each drove in two runs for WVSU while
Trayvis Patterson contributed three hits.
The defending champion Yellow Jackets now face West Virginia Wesleyan at 11 a.m. in the double-elimination event.
