Baseball Sweeps UVa-Wise

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2     The WVSU baseball team swept a doubleheader from UVa-Wise by scores of 7-6 and 12-1 on a warm and cloudy Thursday afternoon in Institute.
Trailing 6-4 with two innings to play in the opener the Yellow Jackets pulled even in the sixth courtesy of a solo home run off the bat of Trenton Porter and an RBI single from Trayvis Patterson.
After walking to lead off the seventh Cody Smith stole second, advanced to third on a single by Josh Kiser, and scurried home with the game-winner on a wild pitch one out later.
Jason Lewis held the Cavaliers scoreless the final two innings to earn the win.
There was no such drama in the nightcap as WVSU led 5-1 after five innings and added seven in the sixth to cruise to the victory.
Kiser, Phil Mandt, and Tyler Payne each had three hits, including a double apiece, in game two while Mandt hit a two-run hoe run and Porter collected his secon solo shot of the day.
Starter Dustin Kincaid allowed just four hits in five innings to earn the win.
