Trailing for most of the contest WVSU took its first real lead with 7:26 to play when
Steve Wing battled through three Blue Knights to lay the ball of the backboard and in after Dimitros Jelen-Joy had forced a turnover.
After the squads exchanged baskets a couple of times Jelen-Joy hit a right-side baseline jumper to move the Yellow Jackets ahead for good at 75-73 with 4:17 remaining.
The victory came on Senior Night as Jelen-Joy,
Damion Harris, and
Anthony Grant were recognized before playing their final game in the Walker Convocation Center.
The win means WVSU finishes its home schedule with back-to-back wins as the Jackets have victories in three of their last four games.
It also pushed their record to 5-2 when scoring 85 points or more.
Junior
Markee Mazyck led WVSU with 21 points though playing just 18 minutes due to foul difficulties.
Harris added 20 and pulled down 13 rebounds.
Dominic Phillips contributed 16 points and five assists while Jelen-Joy finished with 13 points and three assists.
