Box Score The WVSU men's and women's basketball teams each picked up a win at Urbana Tuesday evening.
The women's tipped off first and the Yellow Jackets jumped out to a lead, saw it evaporate and then regained it on the way to picking up a 70-64 win.
WVSU led by as many as 11 early only to see the Blue Knights rally to take a four point halftime lead.
The Jackets trailed in the second half until
Alexus Hobbs hit a 3-pointer to move them ahead 51-49 with 7:43 to play, a lead WVSU never relinquished.
Hobbs finished with a game high 22 points while
Deyahnna Styles added 12 and
Shealyn Shafer 10.
In the men's contest WVSU also saw an early lead disappear when Urbana fought back from a 14-point deficit to take a 58-56 lead with 11:51 remaining.
The Yellow Jackets were able to put their game back into high gear though and took the lead back on a pair of
Damion Harris free throws with 8:33 to play.
Markee Mazyck followed that up with a 3-pointed and a driving lay-up to help WVSU regain control on the way to an 88-81 victory.
Mazyck ended up with 29 points followed by Dimitrios Jelen-Joy with 15,
Dominic Phillips 12, and
Steve Wing with 10.
