After 72 years and over 1,300 basketball games Fleming Hall saw its final hoops action and crowd Tuesday night.
The Yellow Jackets made sure "The Pit" went out in style with a pair of wins Tuesday night.
First the WVSU women rolled to an 82-58 victory over UVa-Wise and the men followed with an emotional comeback 84-81 win.
In the opener the Yellow Jackets were never challenged as they held the visitors to just 26% shooting while sinking 53.4% from the floor themselves. They also won the rebounding battle by a healthy 53-35 margin.
India Taste paced a balanced attack with 19 points.
The nightcap looked like it might follow a similar script as the Jackets stretched a six-point halftime lead to 14 early in the second period.
The Cavaliers rallied though and held a six-point lead themselves with just 1:10 to play at 80-74.
With a boisterous crowd behind them on Alumni Night the Yellow Jackets, and senior
Bo King especially, would not be denied.
King started the comeback with a 3-pointer, added a driving lay-up a few seconds later, hit another driving bucket and the ensuing free throw to give WVSU the lead at 82-81, and then hit a pair of free throws in the final seconds to add the icing.
By the time all was said and done King had scored the Yellow Jackets final 10 points and 10 of the final 11 in the game.
He finished with 28 points and Dominic Phillips had 11.
