Box Score The WVSU men took a seven point lead midway through the first half only to see it evaporate as Shepherd (8-5 overall, 3-4 MEC) caught up and then pulled away to hand the Yellow Jackets a 94-81 defeat in front of a sparse holiday break crowd in the Walker Convocation Center.
After five ties and eight lead changes during the first 15 minutes a three-point play by freshman
Frank Webb with 5:10 to play in the first half gave WVSU a 32-31 lead.
Just eight seconds later the Rams scored to go ahead by one and WVSU would never lead again.
The Yellow Jackets (4-8, 2-5) did fight back to pull within four points twice, two points a couple of times, and pull even at 62-62 with 12:53 to play on a
Markee Mazyck jumper and again at 66-66 on a pair of Mazyck free throws.
But Shepherd hit shot after shot down the stretch and used a 44-32 rebounding advantage to build a 24-8 margin in second chance points to coem away with the win.
Mazyck led WVSU with 22 points while adding eight rebounds and eight assists.
Cody Morris contributed 18 points and six rebounds while
Frank Webb finished with 11 points and
Awwal Reid 10.
