Womens Basketball wins in OT over Urbana

Greenleaf's 2nd Double-Double in as many games leads way

Box Score Senior Asia Greenleaf's second double-double in as many games and seventh on the year, of 26 points and 16 rebounds, helped lead the way as the Yellow Jackets pulled away from home standing Urbana University 82-72 in Overtime.

WVSU had three seven point leads in the first half, all culminated by Senior Jordan Brock buckets. As a team the Lady Jackets shot 47% from the field and lead 42-36.

The Lady Blue Knights came out strong after half, outscoring WVSU 28-14, to lead 64-56 on Jackie Cousineau three point shot with 7:52 remaining.

The Lady Yellowjackets were down 6, 69-63 with 1:51 remaining, WVSU would outscore the Blue Knights 8 to 2 with Senior Lexy Carson hitting two free throws with :05 seconds remaining to force overtime.

WVSU took the lead for good with 2:32 remaining when 73-71 when Asia Greenleaf hit a 8 foot jumper on Lexy Carson 5th assist of the game. WVSU would make 9-14 free throws in the overtime to seal the victory.

Head Coach David Smith had this to say "Great win for the girls and a great win for the program. Asia and Jordan came up really big - especially Asia in OT.1st half was the best half of basketball we have played this year. Team win, everyone contributed."

Jordan Bock added 21 points, Lexy Carson with 18, and India Taste with 11 points. The Lady Yellow Jackets improve to 11-4 overall and moved into 2nd place with a 7-2 record in the Mountaineast Conference.

WVSU is off until Saturday, January 18.2014 when they travel to Athens, WV and play Concord University. Tip Off is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
