Jackets win at Urbana

Kings 15 points in 2nd half leads the way

Box Score The Yellow Jackets took an 8-0 lead at the 14:49 mark when Senior Bo King 3rd assist of the first half hitting a wide open Sophomore Steve Wing for a driving lay up in the paint. However, the Blue Knights would go on a 37-22 run the rest of the half to lead 37-30 at the break.

The Teams would battle back and fourth in the second half, with Urbana leading by no more than 4 points the first 10 minutes of the half and WVSU leading by no more than 6 points the last 10 minutes.

Urbana's Casey Baker hit two free throws with 1:36 remaining to give the Blue Knights a 70-69 lead. Bo King would answer with a floating lay up down the lane 13 second later to give the Jackets the lead for good, 71-70. Another layup at the :33 second mark by Senior Juan Johnson pushed the lead to 75-71. Sophomore point guard Dominic Phillips would go 6 for 6 from the foul line the last few seconds to seal the 81-76 win.

Head Coach Bryan Poore "Anytime you win on the road it take a great team effort and we definitely got that tonight. We didn't shoot the ball well but found a way to grind it out. Steve Wing really played big for us and got some crucial rebounds.

WVSU was led in scoring by Bo King with 20 points, Anton Hutchins with 16 points, Dominic Phillips with 14 points, and Steve Wing with 12 points off of the bench.

West Virginia State Uiniversity is off until Saturday, January 18, 2014 when they travel to Athens, WV and play Concord University at 4:00 PM.
