INSTITUTE – Sixty West Virginia State University student-athletes were honored by the Division 2 Athletics Directors Association (D2 ADA) as Academic Achievement Award recipients.

"These student athletes represent what it means to be a Yellow Jacket," Director of Athletics David Hicks said. "They excel on the field and most importantly, in the classroom.   We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments and celebrate this recognition with them and their families."

WVSU is one of six Mountain East Conference schools to have athletes earn the honor. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, have completed a minimum of two years of college coursework, and been an active member of an intercollegiate team during the last academic year. Additionally, the school's athletic director must be a dues-paying member of the D2 ADA.

Twelve sports were represented, led by baseball and women's soccer with 10 athletes each. Other sports represented include acrobatics and tumbling, men's basketball, men's golf, men's tennis, men's track and field, softball, women's basketball, women's tennis, and women's volleyball.
