Down 80-75 with 2:46 to play the Yellow Jackets' chances of a season opening win over visiting Bluefield State appeared to be in serious danger.

But the Jackets refused to fold and, spurred on by a boisterous crowd, rallied to outscore Bluefield 11-3 down the stretch for a well earned 86-83 win.

Senior Anton Hutchins led the way with 28 points while newcomer Dominic Phillips finished with 22, including 18 in the second half, and Terry Wood contributed 13.

The WVSU defense forced the visitors into missing seven of their final eight shots while the Yellow Jackets hit three of their final four field goal attempts and final four free throw attempts to seal the comeback.

WVSU hosts Wheeling Jesuit Saturday with the women's game starting at 2:00 p.m. followed by the men at 4:00 p.m.
