Walker Drives Jackets to Victory

Box Score
Jalen Walker took the ball almost the length of the floor to hit an acrobatic reverse layup in traffic with 2.6 seconds remaining to give the Yellow Jacket men a thrilling 90-89 win over visiting Shepherd Thursday night.
The Rams had just taken their first lead since early in the game on a 3-pointer with 8.2 seconds remaining before Walker's heroics.
Down 88-86 Shepherd brought ball up after the Yellow Jackets missed the front end of a one-and-one and Brantley Osborne drained a long 3-pointer from just right of the top of the circle.
The Rams immediately took their final timeout to set their defense. WVSU Coach Bryan Poore countered with another timeout setting up the final play.
Walker took the inbounds pass just a few feet inside the baseline and drove the right side of the court before cutting to middle and down the lane weaving his way between defenders.
With all of his options covered Walker started to the right side of the hoop and then went under it and up on the left side laying the ball softly against the glass.
Shepherd tried a hurried shot from midcourt as the buzzer went off to no avail.
The Yellow Jackets had led since David Ford's tip-in made the score 30-29 with 6:48 to play in the first half.
The WVSU lead rose to 13 points in the second half before Shepherd began chipping away.
Ray Austin led the Jackets with 26 points and 10 rebounds while Anton Hutchins added 20 points.
Ford finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds with Walker ending up with 12 points including 10 in the second half.
Osborne finished with 22 points to lead the Rams and Chad Moore had a big night with 21 points and 16 rebounds.
