West Virginia State University Athletics

Andre Cunningham was named head men's tennis coach at West Virginia State prior to the 2022-23 season. He added the women's coaching role prior to the 2024-25 season. Cunningham was a player at WVSU and spent one season as an assistant for the Yellow Jackets before taking over as head coach. 

MEN
Cunningham has improves the Yellow Jackets record in every season, including a 2025-26 season where he led WVSU to their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional, capping off a season where the Yellow Jackets earned their most wins in program history. 

In his first season at the helm, The Yellow Jackets won three matches, with Cunningham notching his first career win March 4, 2023 against Frostburg State. The next year saw WVSU win five matches, including closing the season with wins over Salem and Davis & Elkins. The 2024-25 season saw WVSU win seven matches. 

WOMEN
The Yellow Jackets finished the 2025-26 season with six wins, including Mountain East Conference wins over West Liberty and Davis & Elkins. His first season saw WVSU win duals against UVA Wise and Bluefield State. 

A native of Charleston, Cunningham played one season for the Yellow Jackets during the 2020-21 season.
