INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- It was Tennis Senior Day in Institute as we celebrated
Amanda Menendez Thomasson and
Daniela Cruzado Fretel , then
Axel Dormann and
Heinrich Lindeque. The festivities lasted all day as the Yellow Jackets defeated the Salem Tigers 4-1 on the women's side, and a 7-0 sweep in men's.
In women's, West Virginia State earned a 4-1 victory, taking control early with wins in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to secure the doubles point. In singles play, the Yellow Jackets continued to dictate the match as
Maria Mercedes Kaltakian and
Amanda Menendez Thomasson each posted straight-set victories at the top two positions.
Christina Karagrigoriou added the decisive point with a default win at No. 6 singles. Salem's lone point came at No. 4 singles, but West Virginia State's strong showing in both doubles and the top of the singles lineup proved to be the difference.
In the men's match, West Virginia State completed a commanding 7-0 sweep over Salem. The Yellow Jackets claimed the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 before rolling through singles competition.
Forkane Lebdi,
Niclas Naedele, and
Patchara Suklian each earned straight-set wins, while
Heinrich Lindeque battled through a three-set match at No. 4 singles to highlight the effort. West Virginia State controlled every phase of the match, showcasing depth and consistency across the lineup in the shutout win.
Women will host Bluefield State alone on Tuesday, April 14. Men will be back in action April 17 at Frostburg State.
