WVSU hosts 2026 Stinger Awards

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The West Virginia State athletic department hosted the first-ever Stinger Awards Wednesday night inside the Ferrell Hall Auditorium on the WVSU campus. 14 awards were given out, as well as a few special recognitions. The full list of award winners is below. 

Cal Bailey Career Achievement Award - Axel Dormann (men's tennis)
Assistant Coach of the Year - Kyle Waters (baseball)
Service Award - women's soccer
Sportsmanship Award - Christina Karagrigoriou (women's tennis)
Play of the Year - Aidan Paulsen walk-off winner Feb. 28 (baseball)
Game of the Year - Football Sept. 27 vs. Fairmont State
Coach of the Year - Shannon Gerencir (volleyball)
Comeback Athlete of the Year - Jessica Osuanah (women's basketball)
Male Freshman Athlete of the Year - Garrett Wagoner (baseball)
Female Freshman Athlete of the Year - Lilly Adkins (volleyball)
Support Staff of the Year - Sean McAndrews
Male Scholar Athlete of the Year - Aidan Paulsen
Female Scholar Athlete of the Year - Autumn Hall (softball)
Male Athlete of the Year - Forkane Lebdi (men's tennis)
Female Athlete of the Year - Nicole Gartner Custodio (volleyball)

In addition, it was announced that the Support Staff of the Year award will be named the Sean McAndrews Support Staff of the Year award in honor of McAndrews' 30+ years of service to the WVSU athletic department. Other special recognitions included honoring the Dr. John Fuller, Sr. scholar athletes.
