Senior Day at Lady Jackets Field Comes with Two Wins Over Wesleyan

INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- West Virginia State completed a dominant Mountain East Conference sweep of West Virginia Wesleyan on Senior Day at Lady Jackets Field, using a run-rule shutout in Game 1 before pulling away late for a 4-2 victory in Game 2.

In the opener, the Yellow Jackets overwhelmed Wesleyan in an 11-0, five-inning win, piling up eight hits while capitalizing on three Bobcat errors. West Virginia State broke things open with a 10-run fourth inning sparked by a Clarke Moore double and Emily Bechtel 3-run home run, while Adriana Green limited Wesleyan to just two hits and no runs. The Jackets controlled the game from start to finish, taking advantage of free baserunners and timely hitting to secure the early run-rule decision.

In Game 2, West Virginia State completed the sweep with a 4-2 victory in a more competitive contest. Wesleyan struck first with single runs in the third and fourth innings, but the Yellow Jackets responded with consistent offense, collecting 11 hits and pushing across runs in key moments. Gianna Sloan-Lebron went 2-4 at the plate, scoring a run, while Avery Contreras collected a hit as well. The Jackets' pitching staff allowed four runs on 11 hits but held the Bobcats scoreless over the final frames to seal the win and finish off the doubleheader sweep. Autumn Hall started in the circle, completing 4.0 innings pitched, while Kaleigh Murphy finished the game for the Yellow Jackets.

WVSU will host the Senators of Davis & Elkins tomorrow, April 27, starting at 12:00 PM.
