Men's and Women's Tennis Both Sweep Hilltoppers 7-0

INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- West Virginia State delivered a dominant performance Friday at the Marvin D. Mills Tennis Complex, sweeping both the men's and women's matches against West Liberty. The Yellow Jackets controlled play from start to finish on the men's side before the women followed with their first victory of the season in equally convincing fashion.

The WVSU men set the tone early and never looked back in a 7-0 sweep of West Liberty. The Yellow Jackets secured the doubles point with wins across all three flights, highlighted by the tandems of Forkane Lebdi and Wacil El Hanafi, along with Facundo Campana Urcia and Alejandro Polo Alferez. In singles, WVSU continued its dominance, winning all six matches in straight sets. Lebdi and Niclas Naedele led the charge at the top of the lineup with commanding victories at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, while Ben Steinhoefel and El Hanafi added strong performances in the middle. Campana Urcia and Polo Alferez completed the sweep, as the Yellow Jackets dropped just one set across singles play in a complete team effort.

The WVSU women followed with a breakthrough performance, earning their first win of the season in a 7-0 sweep. The Yellow Jackets took control early by claiming all three doubles matches, setting the momentum for singles play. Maria Mercedes Kaltakian delivered a hard-fought three-set win at No. 1 singles, battling through a match tiebreak to secure the point. Amanda Menendez Thomasson added another three-set victory at No. 2, while Daniela Cruzado Fretel, Talia Nichols, Christina Karagrigoriou and Carlota Pamies Petit each won in straight sets to seal the sweep. The win marked a strong step forward for WVSU as the team put together its most complete performance of the season.

Yellow Jackets will take on Edinboro tomorrow, March 21 at the Marvin D. Mills Tennis Complex with the Women beginning at 10:54 AM and Men following after.
