ELKVIEW, W.Va. -- West Virginia State's softball team split with the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats on Saturday afternoon at Herbert Hoover High School, falling in game one 9-0 in a run-rule shortened five inning game, before rallying and taking game two 8-1, WVSU's first victory since March 21. The doubleheader was moved to Herbert Hoover following some local rain that rendered WVSU's home field unplayable.

Game 1 Recap: West Virginia Wesleyan 9, West Virginia State 0 (5 innings)
West Virginia State was held hitless in a five-inning 9-0 loss to West Virginia Wesleyan in the opening game of Saturday's doubleheader at Herbert Hoover High School. Wesleyan broke the game open with four runs in the third inning and added five more in the fifth. Kendall Stoffel pitched a complete game for the Bobcats, striking out six and walking three. Josi Fix drove in three runs on two hits and Gracie Arnold added three RBIs on a double and a sacrifice fly.
WVSU managed just four baserunners, all via walks or errors. Chloe Treadway started in left field before moving to the circle in relief of Kaleigh Murphy in the third. The Yellow Jackets committed one error and left four runners on base in the shutout loss.
Game 2 Recap: West Virginia State 8, West Virginia Wesleyan 1
West Virginia State snapped an 11-game losing streak with an 8-1 win over West Virginia Wesleyan in the second game of the doubleheader. Autumn Hall earned the complete game win for WVSU, allowing five hits and one run over seven innings. Hall also went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and three RBIs. Chloe Treadway added three RBIs, and Sydney Shamblin and Olivia Bell each contributed multi-hit games.
WVSU scored three runs in the second inning and added multiple runs in the fourth and sixth. Defensively, the Yellow Jackets played error-free ball. Wesleyan scored its lone run in the fourth on an RBI single by Gracie Arnold. Morgan Greene took the loss for the Bobcats after allowing three earned runs in 1.1 innings of work.
