Early Outburst Not Enough in Game One as WVSU Drops Twin Bill at D&E

ELKINS, W.Va. -- WVSU dropped both ends of a doubleheader against Davis & Elkins in their final road trip of the season on Friday. State raced out to a six run lead early but big innings cost the Yellow Jackets.

Post Game Records
WVSU: 14-28, 5-21 MEC
D&E: 24-25, 17-9 MEC

Game One: Davis & Elkins 8, WVSU 6
West Virginia State opened Game One with a five-run first inning and added another in the second, but could not hold off a comeback from Davis & Elkins in an 8-6 loss. The Yellow Jackets capitalized early with RBIs from Kylie Price, Emma Pauley, and Cassidy Cummings, while Sydney Shamblin and Morgan Burdette added key hits in the opening frame. Pauley went 2-for-4 with a stolen base, and Kerigan Moore reached base twice and scored twice. After Davis & Elkins pulled within one, the Senators used a three-run sixth to take the lead. Kelley Bickers threw 2.2 innings of relief, while starter Autumn Hall took the loss.

Game Two: Davis & Elkins 10, WVSU 0
In the second game, WVSU was limited to one hit in a 10-0 loss in five innings. Kaylee Byus recorded the Yellow Jackets' only hit and reached base again later in the game, but the State offense was stifled by D&E pitcher Sammie Jarvis, who struck out six. The Senators scored three in the first and broke the game open with a seven-run fourth. Kaleigh Murphy allowed five earned runs over three innings, with Alex Hill and Bickers appearing in relief. Errors in the field contributed to extended innings, as WVSU could not recover from the early deficit.
