Game One: Fairmont State 5, WVSU 2
West Virginia State fell to Fairmont State, 5-2, in the opening game of Friday's doubleheader at Little Creek Park. The contest experienced four weather delays totaling 68 minutes, including a 39-minute lightning delay before the bottom of the fifth inning. WVSU took an early lead in the first inning when Chloe Treadway walked and scored on Emma Pauley's RBI single. The Yellow Jackets added another run in the fifth as Cassidy Cummings singled and later scored on Kerigan Moore's RBI hit. Autumn Hall pitched a complete game for WVSU, allowing eight hits and four earned runs with two strikeouts over seven innings.
Despite the early momentum, West Virginia State couldn't maintain the lead as Fairmont State scored one run in the third, two in the fourth, and two more in the fifth. Moore led WVSU with two hits and an RBI, while Treadway, Pauley, and Cummings also contributed base hits. The Yellow Jackets stranded four runners and committed two errors. The weather delays occurred during Treadway's at-bat in the first inning (6 minutes), before Alexa Andrews' at-bat in the second inning (12 minutes), before the bottom of the second (11 minutes), and a lightning delay before the bottom of the fifth (39 minutes).
Game Two: Fairmont State 8, WVSU 0 (6 inn.)
In the second game, West Virginia State was defeated 8-0 in six innings by Fairmont State. The Falcons scored three runs in the first inning, added two more in the fourth, and closed out the game with one in the fifth and two in the sixth. Kelley Bickers started for the Yellow Jackets and pitched all six innings, allowing nine hits and seven earned runs on 85 pitches. WVSU scattered four hits but was unable to capitalize offensively, leaving five runners on base.
Sydney Shamblin recorded a triple in the third inning for WVSU's offensive highlight. Kerigan Moore, Autumn Hall, and Olivia Bell each added hits for the Yellow Jackets. Defensively, WVSU committed three errors, while Fairmont State played error-free softball. Delaney Haller earned the win for Fairmont State with 4.1 innings pitched, and Phoebe Rusnak completed the shutout in relief.
