NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- West Virginia State split a doubleheader on March 9 at North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex, defeating the University of Pikeville 11-9 before falling to Malone 4-2.

The Yellow Jackets tallied 17 hits, with
Clarke Moore leading the offense with a triple and three RBIs.
Kylie Price contributed three hits and two RBIs, while
Olivia Bell added two RBIs, including a triple.
Sydney Shamblin,
Autumn Hall, and
Emma Pauley each drove in runs. Hall started in the circle, allowing seven earned runs on 10 hits over 6.1 innings.
Alex Hill and
Kaleigh Murphy combined for 1.2 innings of relief, with Murphy earning the win.
West Virginia State took a 4-3 lead in the fourth inning, highlighted by an RBI single from Shamblin and an RBI double from Price. Pikeville responded with a run in the bottom half, but the Yellow Jackets added two unearned runs in the sixth to extend the lead. After Pikeville tied the game with two runs in the seventh, West Virginia State put up four in the eighth, capped by Moore's three-run triple. Pikeville added two in the bottom half before Murphy recorded the final out.
Game Two: Malone 4, WVSU 2
The Yellow Jackets collected seven hits but left five runners on base. Price and Pauley each drove in a run, while Bell and Pauley contributed multi-hit performances.
Kaleigh Murphy took the loss, allowing four runs on nine hits over seven innings with four strikeouts.
Malone took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning before adding two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth. West Virginia State cut the deficit to one with a run in the fourth when Pauley singled home a run. The Yellow Jackets added another in the sixth on Bell's RBI single but State left the bases juiced when Malone starter Allie Weilnau struck out the next two batters. She struck out four of WVSU's final five batters and eight total in the complete-game win.
West Virginia State will complete their Myrtle Beach trip on Tuesday, March 11 against Covenant College and Rochester Christian.
