Institute, W. Va. -- The Lady Jackets hosted the Lady Pioneers of Glenville State in a conference doubleheader, losing both contests. Glenville State opened the scoring in the second inning with a run and extended its lead with three more in the third. A sacrifice fly and a three-run triple by Kylee Goodman put the Lady Pioneers ahead 4-0. They continued to build momentum with two more runs in the fourth inning, capitalizing on a series of base hits. Monica Rodelo's two-run double in the fifth inning extended the lead to 7-0 before West Virginia State broke through in the bottom half of the inning. The Lady Yellow Jackets responded with a two-run triple from
Olivia Bell, cutting the deficit to 7-2.
West Virginia State added two more runs in the sixth, with
Kylie Price delivering an RBI double to bring the Lady Jackets within three. However, Glenville State tacked on an insurance run in the seventh. Meghan Stump held the Lady Jackets scoreless over five innings, getting two innings of help from AndiJo Howard. West Virginia State managed seven hits but left six runners on base, unable to complete the comeback losing 8-4.
West Virginia State struck first in game two with an early run in the bottom of the first inning, as
Kylie Price doubled and later scored on a groundout by
Chloe Treadway. Glenville State answered in the third inning, scoring two on an home run by Delaney Warnick. The Lady Pioneers then delivered a seven-run fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run double from Emily Nolan and a two-run single by Monica Rodelo.
West Virginia State struggled to generate offense after the first inning, managing only four hits in the game. Glenville State pitcher Kylie Burdick threw a complete game, allowing just one run while striking out two. The Lady Pioneers capitalized on WVSU's defensive miscues, while the Lady Jackets were unable to counter offensively. With the loss, West Virginia State fell to 9-9 on the season and will look to rebound in their next game at 2:00pm on Saturday, March 22, at West Liberty University.
