WHEELING, W.Va. — West Virginia State split a road doubleheader against Wheeling on Friday, dropping the opener 6-3 before rallying for a 6-5 win in the nightcap at JB Chambers I-470 Complex.

Game 1: WVSU 3, Wheeling 6
In game one, WVSU scored twice in the first inning behind a two-run single by Jayde Baron. Chloe Treadway added an RBI double in the fifth to give the Yellow Jackets a 3-1 lead, but Wheeling responded with five unanswered runs, including a walk-off grand slam by Tasiana Taufahema in the bottom of the seventh. Autumn Hall pitched all six innings for West Virginia State, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts. Kylie Price led the offense with three hits and one run scored.
Game 2: WVSU 6, Wheeling 5
In the second game, the Yellow Jackets recovered with a steady offensive effort and key relief pitching. WVSU led 2-0 early before falling behind 4-2 after three innings. Emma Pauley tied the game in the fifth with a two-run double, and the Yellow Jackets scored two more runs in the sixth on a sacrifice fly and a defensive error. Pauley finished with three hits and two RBI. Treadway added an RBI double in the first inning.
Kaleigh Murphy earned the win in relief, tossing four innings and allowing one unearned run with three strikeouts. The Yellow Jackets used three pitchers in total. Wheeling left the tying run on base in the seventh.
