INSTITUTE, W.Va. — West Virginia State swept Point Park in straight sets on Saturday afternoon at the Walker Center, winning 25–18, 25–23, 25–19. The victory moved the Yellow Jackets to 11–10 (5–4 MEC), while Point Park fell to 3–8 (2–7 MEC).
State hit an efficient .295 and kept Point Park to .126. Carmen Pérez led with 10 kills, nine digs and an ace.
Alyssa Hill added nine kills and four blocks, and
Nicole Gartner Custodio posted six kills with a match-high five total blocks. Setter
Kelsey Mckeehan handed out 28 assists and chipped in four kills, an ace and a block.
The opening set swung on a 7–2 WVSU run after an 11–11 tie to close out a 25–18 win. Set two was the tightest, featuring multiple ties and lead changes before a late Custodio/McKeehan block sealed it, 25–23. In the third, State took control midway and finished the sweep, 25–19.
As a team, West Virginia State finished with 39 kills, 36 assists, 44 digs, 9.0 total blocks and three aces (51.0 points). Point Park recorded 40 kills, 38 assists, 48 digs, 3.0 total blocks and eight aces (51.0 points).
