WVSU Softball scores 3 runs in both ends of Glenville St. split

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – West Virginia State's softball team split with Glenville State on Saturday on the road, taking game one 3-1, then falling in game two 11-3.

Game 1 - WVSU 3, Glenville St. 1
Addi Dillow hit a one-out single in the top of the first inning. After a strikeout, Autumn Thompson ripped a double into left field, scoring Dillow. Thompson stole third and then scored on an error by the catcher. 

In the second inning, Kristabella Carte hit an opposite single into right field, was sacrificed over to second, advanced to third on a groundout, then scored on a subsequent passed ball, 3-0. 

Glenville State ripped three consecutive hits in the bottom of the third to get a run back, 3-1. 

The Pioneers got sporadic hits over the next three innings then had the bases loaded with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning but Autumn Thompson was able to pitch out of the jam after inducing a flyout to center field to secure game one.

Emele Clark, Dillow, Autumn Thompson, Chelsea Thompson, and Carte each had a base hit in the game. Autumn Thompson picked up the complete game victory, moving to 5-5 on the season while fanning two.

Game 2 - WVSU 3, Glenville St. 11 (5 innings)
The Pioneers scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning. In the top of the second, Carte picked up her second hit of the day, scoring Autumn Thompson, 2-1. The Pioneers got the run back in the bottom of the second. 

In the top of the third, singles by Avery Contreras and Autumn Thompson scored Emele Clark and then an error by the centerfielder on Thompson's single allowed Kerigan Moore to score, 3-3.

However, in the bottom of the fifth, Glenville State put an eight-spot on the Yellow Jackets invoking the eight-run rule and terminating the game early.

Autumn Thompson and Moore were perfect from the dish, with Thompson going 3-for-3 and had the lone extra-base hit for the Yellow Jackets in game two. Moore went 2-for-2.

WVSU travels south to Athens to take on the Concord Mountain Lions in a doubleheader on Sunday March 17. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
