WVSU Softball falls in final game of Fast Pitch Dreams Classic, 4-3

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – West Virginia State (7-8) fell in their final matchup at the Fast Pitch Dreams Classic on Sunday to Jefferson University (2-4), 4-3. State tied it up in the fourth inning, but fell behind late and couldn't rally.

Autumn Hall, Autumn Thompson and Kaitlyn Cabral each had one hit and accounted for all three hits for the Yellow Jackets. Emma Pauley knocked in two RBIs.

Hall fanned three in the start before reliever Thompson gave up two and took the loss.

Jefferson opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the first inning.

The Yellow Jackets got a run back in the bottom of the third when a sacrifice bunt attempt by Kerigan Moore got skied from the third baseman. She ended up standing on third, scoring Kaitlyn Cabral. A sacrifice attempt in the fifth also went awry when Emma Pauley sent one into center field trying to score Autumn Hall, but the center fielder dropped in, allowing Pauley to stay on base.

Jefferson threatened in the third and sixth before finally breaking through with two straight hits, scoring two.

Thompson led off the seventh with a triple and Pauley hit a sacrifice fly to knock her, but the next two batter flew out to the outfield, ending the rally.

State returns home for a Tuesday clash against Monroe University. The time of first pitch of that doubleheader has not been released yet.
