Last-second goal dooms Women's Soccer at Concord

ATHENS, W.Va. -- Concord scored a goal with eight seconds to play to hand WVSU just their second loss in conference play of the year by a final of 4-3. WVSU falls to 10-3-2, 9-2-1 in Mountain East Conference action, while Concord improves to 9-5-1, 8-3-1 in the MEC. The loss snaps a seven match winning streak for the Yellow Jackets and was the first road loss of the season for Brandon Slewa's squad.

WVSU opened the scoring early with Sara París Fílter's goal in the 6th minute off of a Billie Jean Davies corner kick to gave State the opening lead. However, Concord quickly took control with a flurry of three first-half goals. Tiana Campbell netted the equalizer in the 24th minute before Caitlin Webster's strike in the 28th, assisted by Nora Voisey, gave the Mountain Lions a 2-1 lead. Campbell added her second goal just two minutes later to extend Concord's advantage to 3-1 at the break.

The Yellow Jackets responded with a spirited comeback in the second half. París Fílter struck again in the 55th minute for her second goal of the match, cutting the deficit to 3-2. Just two minutes later, Sandra Linares converted off an assist from Ellise Rennie to bring the score to 3-3. WVSU was whistled for a foul with 14 seconds to play. Concord took a shot which was pin-balled around in the box straight to Concord's Sydney Tucker who found the back of the net with eight seconds left to steal the 4-3 win.

WVSU's attack was led by París Fílter, who notched two goals on three shots, while Linares added her team-leading 14th goal of the season. The Yellow Jackets outshot Concord 19-12, with 10 of their attempts on target. Rennie and Davies each recorded an assist, while goalkeeper Laura Galindo made one save on the day. It was a physical match in Athens with State whistled for 13 fouls and four yellow cards compared to Concord's 9 fouls and single sanction.

WVSU will look to bounce back in Buckhannon for a 5p.m. road tilt against the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats on Wednesday, Oct. 30th.
