Volleyball sweeps Point Park on the road

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — West Virginia State University (14-9, 8-1 MEC) continued their impressive season with a straight-set victory over Point Park University (5-15, 3-7 MEC) at CCAC-Allegheny. The Yellow Jackets dominated the contest 25-12, 25-21, 25-16 to earn their 14th win of the year.

WVSU's offensive attack was led by Baby Moleni and Hannah Steele, each tallying 10 kills. Moleni hit at an efficient .529 with three blocks, while Steele posted a .471 hitting percentage and added five digs. Setter Kiersten Eggleton orchestrated the offense, dishing out 31 assists, while libero Morgan Caba stood out from the service line with four aces and anchored the defense with 11 digs. Valencia Wilder also chipped in with six kills and six blocks, powering the Yellow Jackets at the net.

In the first set, WVSU set the tone early, cruising to a 25-12 win. The Yellow Jackets' defense was instrumental, holding Point Park to a negative hitting percentage. The second set saw more resistance from the Pioneers, but Caba's service run and Wilder's net presence helped WVSU pull away, winning 25-21. In the final set, WVSU maintained control, wrapping up the match 25-16 with strong finishes from Steele and Moleni.

The Yellow Jackets recorded 39 kills on a .359 hitting percentage while also notching nine aces and eight total blocks. Point Park struggled offensively, hitting just .023 for the match and committing 23 errors.

WVSU will conclude their road-trip with their next game on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at Concord University.
