WVSU selected for 15th appearance at NCAA DII Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The West Virginia State University women's tennis team was one of the 48 teams selected to participate in the 2023 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship on Monday night. Preliminary-rounds will be played May 1-2 at sixteen regional sites. The winning team from each site will advance to the finals, May 12-16, in Orlando, Florida. Rollins College and the Greater Orlando Sports Commission will serve as hosts.

West Virginia State earned the No. 4 seed in the Atlantic Region after advancing to the finals of the MEC Tournament on Sunday afternoon. Charleston will host the Atlantic Region No. 1 bracket which includes State and No. 5-seeded West Liberty. The Yellow Jackets and the Hilltoppers will clash at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 1st for a rematch of the MEC Tournament semifinals. WVSU came out on top in their last match, 4-2.

The winner of the first round matchup in the Atlantic Region No. 1 bracket will advance to play No. 1-seeded Charletson at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2nd. The result of the regional finals match determines who will move on to the Sweet 16 in Orlando. Last year, State played out of the Atlantic Region No. 2 bracket and defeated Mercyhurst, 4-1, in the opening round. The Yellow Jackets then went on to defeat UC, 4-3, and advance to the Sweet 16.
