CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia State University women's tennis team was defeated by Charleston, 4-0, in the finals of the MEC Tournament on Sunday afternoon at Schoenbaum Tennis Courts.

The Golden Eagles rushed out to a 1-0 lead by securing the doubles point. A forfeit due to injury at No. 6 singles then gave UC a 2-0 advantage before the singles matches even started.

Charleston was able to win at No. 1 and No. 5 singles before the other matches were able to finish. Amanda Menendez Thomasson was in the lead at No. 3 singles (6-3, 4-2) when the Golden Eagles claimed the victory, 4-0.

State's season may not be over yet with a chance to make regionals. The Yellow Jackets are currently ranked fifth in the Atlantic Region. The NCAA will announce selections to regional tournaments tomorrow at 8:30 p.m.
