State drops both games at Cedarville

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The West Virginia State University softball team (5-6) dropped both games in a doubleheader at Cedarville (6-14) on Wednesday afternoon. WVSU was defeated in the first game, 6-2, before suffering another defeat in the second game, 9-0.

Game 1: Cedarville 6, West Virginia State 2 (Final/7)

After a scoreless two and a half innings, Cedarville struck first in the bottom of the third. A triple with the bases loaded and two outs scored three runs, 3-0.

State responded in the next half inning with an RBI-single, 3-1. Emma Pauley beat out a groundball to the shortstop to allow Addi Dillow to score from third.

CU then tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fourth, 5-1. A triple to left center scored the first run before an infield single scored the second run.

WVSU scored its final run in the top of the fifth on an error, 5-2. Cedarville scored its last run in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly, 6-2.

Game 2: Cedarville 9, West Virginia State 0 (Final/5)

State faced Cedarville's Adaline Ziehmer in the circle and was held to one hit. Kerigan Moore's base hit came in the top of the third.

CU teed off in the top of the first and put up eight runs on WVSU, 8-0. Any chance of a comeback was thwarted by Ziehmer's lights out performance.

Cedarville scored once more in the third inning with a sacrifice fly, 9-0. The eight-run rule came into effect in the fifth inning.
