PHILIPPI, W.Va. — WVSU's softball team split with the Battlers from Alderson-Broaddus Saturday, 7-4 and 9-7. Kasey Murphy got both decisions, picking up a loss in game one and a win in game two.

AB: 15-27, 4-18 MEC
GAME 1: AB 7, WVSU 4
Both teams failed to score in the first two innings. Autumn Thompson boarded the bases on a fielding error by the third baseman, scoring Hannah Wilson. Emma Ruth singled two batters later and scored Thompson, 2-0.
AB put up seven runs on the Yellow Jackets in the bottom of the same inning, chasing Kasey Murphy and Emily Moore. Both pitchers recorded a single out in the inning before getting hooked. Megan Shoemaker recorded the final out of the inning.
WVSU plated two more in the top of the fifth, a single by Ruth plated Thompson and a single by Murphy scored Ruth.
Other than a single to the first batter she faced, Shoemaker didn't allow a base hit for the rest of the game. The only base runners for the Battlers were a base on balls and a hit by pitch.
GAME 2: WVSU 9, AB 7
Murphy broke the scoreboard first with a two run jack to left field in the top of the first inning. AB responded with a run in the bottom of the inning, tied it with a run in the second, and took the lead with four in the third, 6-2.
Ruth got aboard on a leadoff walk in the top of the fourth inning. Paige Scruggs got aboard with a single followed by a Thompson single to left, scoring Ruth. Emily Moore walked in a run, then Hannah Wilson got a base hit to right, scoring Layla Mendoza and Thompson. Abby Loyd closed the scoring in the inning on an RBI groundout that scored Kerrigan Moore. All told, five runs were plated on three hits giving the Jackets the slim 7-6 lead. 
AB tied it back up in the bottom of the same inning.
In the top of the seventh, Murphy got a leadoff walk, followed by a Ruth double that scored Murphy all the way from first. A Scruggs ground out moved Ruth to third. She subsequently scored when Thompson grounded out. 
AB had runners on first and third, but a flyout ended the comeback attempt.

The Yellow Jackets return to Lady Jackets Field for the final time this season, welcoming arch-rivals the Golden Eagles from the University of Charleston.
