INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The West Virginia State University softball team won both of its games played against Frostburg State on Saturday afternoon at Lady Jackets Field. The Yellow Jackets clung to a one-run lead for most of the first game to come out on top, 2-1, before they pulled in front towards the backend of the second game to win again, 5-3.

Game 1: WVSU 2, FROST 1, Final/7
- Junior Kasey Murphy (9-6) pitched a complete game in which she gave up one run on five hits and registered five strikeouts.
- West Virginia State managed to pick up two runs on only three hits.
- Both starting pitchers made few mistakes throughout.

A leadoff double in the top of the first, followed by two sacrifice bunts, put the Bobcats in front early on, 1-0.
In the bottom of the second,
Madison Rafuson walked to get on base before she advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Autumn Thompson moved her over to third with a single into left field. Another wild pitch allowed Rafuson to score, 1-1, and Thompson to take her place on third base.
Lindsey Phares then singled through the right side of the infield to score Thompson for the go-ahead and ultimately game-winning run, 2-1.
Game 2: WVSU 5, FROST 3, Final/7
- Freshman Autumn Thompson (11-2) allowed just five hits and one earned run in another complete game performance. She also went 2-for-3 from the plate with a double and two runs batted in.
- Senior Paige Scruggs went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Fellow senior Sarah Barrett also went 2-for-4, with a double, one run scored and one run driven in.
- The Yellow Jackets outhit the Bobcats, 9-5.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the first, Thompson doubled to right field to score two runs, 2-0.
In the next half inning, Frostburg State scored one run on an RBI-double, 2-1. A sac fly scored a second run to tie it, 2-2. A sacrifice bunt brought in the go-ahead run, 3-2.
In the bottom of the same inning,
Tori Lambert singled to left center to bring in Scruggs from second base, 3-3. Scruggs reached base with a single up the middle before she stole second to get into scoring position.
The Yellow Jackets regained the lead in the fourth inning with an RBI-single from
Madison Corbin, 4-3. They added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI-double from Barrett, 5-3.
In the top of the seventh, Thompson retired the side in order, completing the sweep of Frostburg State.
